Swap Stories with Silvia: How Is Home Swapping Different?

We’ve got something new for you this week, and we’re calling it Swap Stories: unscripted interviews with real home swappers sharing their experiences.

First up is Silvia, who shares something unique about home swapping: the difference between staying in a place that’s built for “guests” and a home that’s actually meant to be lived in.

Silvia has homes in both Spain and Italy, and recently completed a home swap in Vienna.

We asked her: How is home swapping different from other forms of travel accommodation?

Silvia: “When you go to Airbnbs and similar places, they show you the kitchen, the workstation, and everything else. But at the end of the day, they’re trying to sell you something, so sometimes when you arrive, the actual experience is not what you expected.

Sometimes these apartments are set up for short stays, but not really for living. There might not even be a proper pan, pot, or the tools you need to actually cook.

So I find it so different when you home swap. It feels more like visiting friends, you know? That home is meant to be lived in.

And especially on Swaphouse, it’s also meant for people to work from home, which is a really big plus. You can feel confident that you’re arriving in a space where you can actually live for more than just a couple of nights.”

Home swapping is about more than finding a place to stay. It’s about experiencing real homes, real neighborhoods, and a more personal way to travel.
