This beautiful 400-year-old farmhouse has been in our family for nearly 30 years. Originally transformed in the 70s by the designer of Dartington Glass, we've carefully preserved its rustic charm while adding modern comforts. The mature garden is an oasis of calm with a large private swimming pool. Step inside and feel the history in every corner—the weathered stone walls, the animal troughs converted into seating. Yet, amidst the old, you'll find all the conveniences for a comfortable stay including air-conditioning in all 4 bedrooms, wifi in each bedroom, the kitchen and Smart TV with Netflix in the sitting room plus wifi in the garden. Relax in the tranquil shaded garden or by the pool or gather in the spacious living areas. The house is a sanctuary where time slows down. There are 4 double bedrooms one downstairs and the other 3 upstairs overlooking the central courtyard. The large main bedroom has a bathroom ensuite and also a private terrace with an outdoor shower overlooking the garden. Upstairs we also have a laundry room with a washing machine and an ironing board and iron with wash lines outside. The garden is a shaded area with a natural umbrella of mature trees and allows for lounging in the shade whether it be on the hammock or around one of the dining tables - a large table and a smaller one for smaller groups. The large swimming pool is a lovely area to relax with views from the pagoda across the fields beyond and the sea. We have a 6 burner gas barbecue which is perfect for entertaining on an evening. The house is positioned on the edge of the village off a small square where you can park and where hawkers stop selling their wares be it fresh fish, vegetables, drinks etc. The house is a 5 minute walk to the main square and restaurants and bars and a grocer. It is a 5 minute drive to a supermarket and a 10 minute drive to the capital Victoria. Everywhere is very accessible including sandy and rocky beaches and other parts of the island. Gozo is a ferry journey from Malta either with a 40 minute catamaran trip from Valletta or with the car ferry from Cirkewwa. This ferry ride is 30 minutes. Gozo is full of history and great for watersports, beautiful Med sea as well as great restaurants.

We had an exceptional home swap with Lisa. Lisa herself was responsive and friendly from the get-go (we had an initial Zoom call to meet and greet, and from there did most communicating over Whatsapp). Her home blew us away with its traditional charm, spaciousness, tidyness, and how well-stocked it was with all the needed creature comforts (compared to Airbnbs we have stayed in–it included details such as a hammock in the garden, outdoor chair pillows, a teapot, yoga mats and bathrobes–just to name a few things). Our favorite part of the house was the unique architecture of the home, including a courtyard connecting all the rooms, as well as the expansive backyard which included a deep swimming pool, multiple dining tables, a couch and hammock under an awning, and a view of the sea from the pool area with plenty of space for morning yoga. The location of the home was ideal: situated in a charming Medieval village surrounded by farmland and hills leading to the sea. There were hiking paths within minutes of walking from the house, and we always found a parking space in the village, if not right in front of the house. The house is located on Gozo, the 2nd largest island of Malta, so with Lisa’s recommendation we used the services of the local car rental Mayjo, which offer packages including a rental car and taxi drop off + ferry. It takes +/- 1.5h to the airport, and we found the service worth it for the peace of mind and comfort. While we didn’t end up working from Lisa’s home (we both took holidays), we found the WiFi to be good, and even did perfect video calls in the kitchen, and there were boosters in all the rooms for good coverage throughout the house. We felt very taken care of in Lisa’s home, and grateful to be staying in a space that is so clearly loved by its owners. Thank you for the unforgettable experience and for sharing this special spot with us!
