I live in the SW part of Bed-Stuy, between the A/C and the G Nostrand subway stops. Both stops are about a 10-minute walk away and get you into Manhattan in roughly 20 minutes (30-40 minutes to get to midtown). I'm directly in front of the SBS B44 bus line.
The neighborhood is known for such cultural icons as Biggie Smalls and Jay-Z, and is now a gentrified melting pot full of brownstones, cafes, wine shops, as well as public housing. Bed-Stuy is a lively neighborhood where you'll hear loud music playing from people's cars and homes, and people will hang out with their friends on the sidewalk. The streets are often dirty, and it can be quite loud here, especially for those sleeping in the room that faces the street. The back bedroom is quieter. I provide earplugs and eye masks! Like many NYC apartments, my amenities are modest (no dishwasher, no garbage disposal, no laundry, and old cabinetry), but it all functions well and the decorations adds charm.
